A blossoming family business
Originally founded by Ron (Rusty) Hill to fulfill his interest in beekeeping, Nambula Apiaries has been operating for over 40 years. The scale of Ron’s backyard hobby quickly grew and grew, blossoming into the buzzing commercial operation it is today.
Janice Hill grew up amongst her father’s bees and followed in his footsteps as a keen apiarist. In 2022 she left her permanent employment to manage Nambula Apiaries with the continued support of her father. Ron’s beloved wife Rosyln Nambula Hill (RIP), a proud Alyawerre, Anmatyerre, Kaytetye woman, is their daily inspiration.
Nambula Apiaries is named in honor of Janice’s family heritage. “Nambula” is the traditional skin name bestowed upon Janice’s late mother by her grandfather, a name that carries deep cultural meaning and respect.

Like her father, Janice holds a deep passion for beekeeping. Together, they’ve combined their years of experience to build Nambula Apiaries into one of the Northern Territory’s largest commercial crop pollinators.
Each year, they also produce tonnes of sweet, delicious bush honey (Ngkwarle) sourced from Indigenous blossoms across the vast NT wilderness.
